March 9, 2013 - York Airport, Pennsylvania

The weather this Saturday was absolutely perfect for flying.  It was not too cold -- it would warm up to 60 degrees during the day -- sunny, with light winds, and fantastic visibility.  A bunch of Essex Skypark pilots were heading for York Airport in Pennsylvania for breakfast-lunch, so Bruce B. and I hopped into our RVs and headed north.

Just north of York Airport.

Turning left base for runway 35.

On the ramp at York.  Essex Skypark pilot Rob's SeaRey is on the left and you can see the restaurant on the right.

You call that an RV grin?

Brian's Cherokee.  The runway at York slopes downhill facing north.

You get all types at a general aviation airport.

The visibility was so good that while over Baltimore, I can see across the Chesapeake Bay to the eastern shore.   The Back River is to the right.

My hangar neighbor, Tom K. took me for a ride in his Maule.   I've never flown in his plane before.  I jumped in right after taking this picture.

Wow, his panel is like the Space Shuttle's!

The view to the west as we come into land.  It occurred to me that this was the first time I had flown out of Essex Skypark as a passenger in a long time.  It was nice to be able to look around.

On final for runway 16.  We landed on the grass to the right.  The Maule's specialty is flying the Back Country.  It can make short takeoffs and landings, and likes grass and dirt runways.

A park on the Back River.  The Maule's door is completely pexiglass:  great for taking pictures.

This community is on the opposite side from Essex Skypark on the Back River.   Long ago when I first started flying at Essex Skypark, it used to be an empty field with only a radio-controlled airplane strip.

Tom did about four takeoff and landings, then let me fly the Maule for awhile, then we came back and he greased it on.  I enjoyed flying with him.
